Thank you for visiting the English language version of 'The Open Door Project'!
This project was created in June 2006, unique to Flintshire and was originally developed by Constable Gary McLeod, Diversity Officer for Flintshire and Wrexham, supported by the Flintshire Community Safety Partnership.
The project was initially directed towards the Polish community that work and live within the Flintshire area, in response to the need to assist people from Poland who moved to Flintshire to live and find work. The reality is, the project is open to anyone! This is evidenced by the number of other nationalities who have visited the open door project for help and continue to do so.
Mid 2008, a number of changes occurred within the project especially with regards to a number of the project team members moving onto to pastures new. Aga, Gosia, Robert, Marta and Marek returned back to Poland. Gary relocated to another community safety role in the Wrexham area, but in 2009 has returned to cover the Flintshire again and will be once more involved in the project. It's clear the changes will continue, however, The Open Door project is still alive and kicking! A clear priority for the project is to continue to improve access (regardless of a persons nationality or language) to information concerning personal safety, road traffic legislation, environmental health child care, education and many other related matters.
The project continues to provide a very warm welcome to all at the 'drop in' cafe situated at the Riverdee Community Church, Flint, which currently takes place twice a month, on Friday, between 11am and 3pm.
